Change Is Not Always For The Better...

Take the case of Tom Maynard, the cricketer who died on the railway yesterday morning. The circumstances are still speculation, but we know police did observe his car being driven 'erratically', we know a male ran off from that car, we know he was later found motionless on the line and he was then struck by a train and died. It's not going to take Sherlock Holmes, is it?

The papers are full of statements by his friends, his family, his ex-teacher, etc. It's a tragedy, a disaster, a horrible accident, life is 'cruel'. His girlfriend takes to Twitter for that most modern of habits, the public expressions of grieving.

Where are the thoughts for the police who stopped the car, who now face a grilling from the IPCC, for something they didn't cause and had no possible way to foresee?

Where are the thoughts for the train driver, who couldn't have avoided the accident, but must feel terrible, with the added 'celebrity' nature of the death?

In the comments, so far as I can see. Not in any main body of any MSM organ.

They are just the little people, you see. What do their feelings matter, when stacked up against a 'celebrity' death, and the chance for a feeding frenzy in the press?

I'm just waiting for the usual suspects to crawl out from under their rocks and accuse the police of murdering him.

Thank you for recognising this.

I dealt with a woman a few years ago,she was in her mid-20's, had broken up with her boyfriend and did a stupid theft. After arresing and interviewing her, the shop declined to prosecute and so it was no further action.

A short time later she committed suicide. She had come from a good family and whilst she had done wrong, she admitted it ,and her life could have gone on.

I appreciate it may look a selfish grief or similar on my part, but i regret not picking up on her distress and helping her. The human mind and emotions are different for everyone. It is regret i will always have.

Good luck to all those affected by the death of this young man.

Another 'sports celebrity' thought the laws were only for us little people then? Ran from yhe coppers (who would probably only have given him an ear bashing unless he was seriously out of it) didn't pay attention to what he was doing and got stuffed by a train. I notice the GF made sure to get a few glamour shots into the paper. Sorry, but I feel a great deal more for the train driver and the poor bloody coppers who had to clean up. Darwin strikes again.

Robert-a nice thought about an ear-bashing but he would have got nicked for drink driving.Zero tolerance on that one and quite rightly so.It's one of the few laws that the courts take seriously.
Had he been speeding/no seat belt/no tax then fair enough a telling off would have probably been the result.
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with this story in the Mail though.Lucky he wasn't a rioters friend!

Another piece of gibberish from a man who is an expert on everything.

Doubt you'll have to wait long.

"...but i regret not picking up on her distress and helping her. "

You have to tell yourself that some people can't be helped, no matter what.

"Darwin strikes again."

It would appear so, yes. The news last night that there was CCTV of some of it should prevent any full-scale IPCC witch hunt, at least.

"I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with this story in the Mail though."

Yesterday afternoon they were making much of the gap in time between the stop and the moment the Tube struck the body. But perhaps the CCTV will clear that up?
